Top 5 Tips to Get Back to Work After the Holidays!

By Angus MacLennan

It's coming up to the end of August and you and your clients are getting back to work or about to finish your holidays. The kids are back to school soon and business people will be back to work. September is going to be an important month for many small to medium sized businesses. It's a time they look to launch new products, new services or focus on getting the clients that will make the last part of 2010 a year to remember. To help my clients get set for the last part of the year I use the great tools in the Business Growth Program to help them focus on the key points to success. I have outlined some of them below:

5 Key Points of Focus:
  1. Strategic Plan - if you don't have a 6 months plan then get one done now. How will you build your business in these tough economic times and over the Christmas period without a plan? Create a plan that will help you make the most of the seasonal changes in your business so you are not left chasing sales in late December when everyone is slowing down.
  2. Weekly Plan - have a weekly plan that keeps you on the right track to achieving your strategic 6 months objectives. Know the numbers you have to do in a week and take into account the seasonal variations.
  3. Marketing Plan - go back to your marketing plan and review your methods and focus. Is the plan right for your business, your products and the season? Consider how you can tweak it to make it more effective.
  4. Goals - set some clear 30 day and 90 day goals. Look to your figures and set goals that will help you reach your targets. If you don't do the numbers you will not get the sales.
  5. Time Management - create a system that works for you so you are focused on the right activities at the right time. Be strict with yourself and stick to your system until it is a habit.
These points are nothing complicated but I have worked with too many business owners who don't reset themselves at the end of the holiday season and find themselves heading into October with no clear direction and poor sales figures. Work smart and be focused and the sales will come.
